How to really achieve success in sports

People enjoy watching great athletes. What they do at times seem physically impossible for most of us.  But in reality some of the champions are no better then their competition physically. What sets them apart is that they are more mentally strong. What most people do not know is that mental tougness can bring success.

Let’s look at some examples.  As a San Diego family therapist I see it all the time with student athletes. You witness kids who are gifted physically. But most of the time they fail to capitalize on their gifts because they are not confident due to weak mental toughness.  We see it all the time in professional sports.  You have great athletes who repeatedly fail to win the big game.Even if they are considered as the best.  When it comes time to win the big one, they can’t do it mentally. The ones who succeed are the ones who are both mentally and physically tough.

That is why as a San Diego sports psychologist I have so many clients come in who need a breakthrough.  They are gifted physically but can’t compete for some reason.  Most of the time it is in their mind. That is where my service can help.Because a lot of times they just have to hurdle their psychological block.Once they get past that hurdle then they can start to become more successful.

Anger is another problem that I see in young athletes that can hinder their success. If they can’t control what they are feeling while they are playing then it would lead to poor performances on the playing court.  Doing anger management counseling has allowed me to turn athletes around who were letting anger get the best of them. But if they just seek help with what’s bothering them then it can help them achieve success.
